Research Profile

Final-year PhD candidate in materials engineering developing visible-light photocatalysts that break down antibiotic residues in pharmaceutical wastewater. Work spans synthesis and defect engineering of graphitic carbon nitride, heterojunction design, full materials characterisation and scale-up from beaker tests to a 20-litre continuous-flow reactor run on real effluent. Thesis submission expected December 2026; seeking a postdoctoral position in environmental materials or water treatment from 2027.

Research Positions
PhD Candidate — Department of Materials Engineering Aug 2020 – Present
A national institute of science, Bengaluru
  • Thesis: Carbon nitride photocatalysts for visible-light degradation of antibiotics in pharmaceutical wastewater. Comprehensive examination passed 2022.
  • Sulphur-doped carbon nitride nanosheets degraded 94% of ciprofloxacin (10 mg/L) in 90 minutes under visible light — about 3.2× the rate of undoped material.
  • Designed a Z-scheme carbon nitride/BiVO4 heterojunction that kept 88% of its activity after 5 reuse cycles.
  • Built and ran a 20-litre continuous-flow reactor with spray-coated photocatalyst panels; removed 81% of total organic carbon from real pharmaceutical-effluent samples over a 6-hour run.
  • Trained 12 new lab members on XRD, UV-Vis and HPLC; maintains the group's photoreactor and chemical-safety records.
Project Assistant — Water Remediation Materials Jul 2019 – Jul 2020
A national chemical research laboratory, Pune
  • Synthesised and tested biochar-supported iron oxide sorbents for arsenic removal from groundwater; best sorbent took arsenic from 200 µg/L to below the 10 µg/L drinking-water limit in batch tests.
  • Ran 300+ batch adsorption experiments and fitted isotherm and kinetic models; work led to a co-authored paper (2022).
