Academia & Research

Faculty applicants, postdoctoral researchers, and independent scholars. Search committees read your publication trajectory and grant record first. Unlike every other field, longer is correct — a 5–8 page CV is expected for tenure-track applications.

What we change for academia

Research metrics lead

Publication count, h-index, citation total, grant dollars secured — in a scannable strip at the top. Committees score candidates on trajectory; these numbers set the frame before they read anything else.

Full publication list

Every peer-reviewed paper, book chapter, conference paper, and preprint — in the citation style your discipline expects (APA, Vancouver, MLA, Chicago). Impact factors and citation counts noted where available.

Grants with dollar amounts

Funder, grant name, amount, and your role (PI, co-PI, collaborator). In 2026 hiring committees want to see grant trajectory — not just grant history.

Teaching and supervision separated

Courses taught with enrolment, PhD students supervised with outcomes, postdocs mentored. Research-focused roles lead with research; teaching-focused roles lead with teaching.

Service and leadership

Journal editorial boards, conference programme committees, department service. Tenure reviewers read these to assess citizenship as well as output.

Patents and knowledge transfer

Filed and granted patents, industry partnerships, spin-outs, and licensed IP — increasingly expected by research councils and hiring committees in STEM fields.
